Pilot maintenance refers to tasks performed by pilots beyond routine pre-flight inspections, typically in response to aircraft malfunctions. These actions may include cycling or deactivating circuit breakers, verifying flight control surface movement, operating switches, conducting software tests, applying INOP stickers, and confirming door status. To ensure safety and compliance, such tasks must be covered during type qualification, recurrent training, and, when applicable, on-the-job training. This paper outlines IFALPA’s perspective on the scope and requirements of pilot-performed maintenance actions.
