Lithium battery fires and smoke in aviation pose significant safety risks, particularly in the flight deck. Studies by EASA, FAA, and ICAO have highlighted the danger of lithium battery and Personal Electronic Device (PED) incidents, emphasizing the challenges in containing fires resulting from thermal runaway events. This paper advocates for operators to reassess their risk management protocols, develop specific training, procedures, and equipment, and establish limitations to effectively mitigate lithium battery fire and smoke risks in the flight deck.
