GNSS Radio Frequency Interference & Signal Manipulation: Emerging & Unknown Impacts on Aircraft Systems

Jan 20, 2026

Abstract

GNSS Radio Frequency Interference (RFI), including jamming and spoofing, is increasing worldwide and can occur without warning. These events can degrade or manipulate navigation and timing data, affecting multiple aircraft systems, including some not previously recognised as GNSS-dependent. The potential for unexpected and cascading system effects highlights the need for heightened vigilance and conservative operations whenever GNSS anomalies are suspected.
