Updated Request

Update: Request for Mutual Assistance for ALPA Canada – Air Canada pilots

September 12, 2024

Dear Colleagues,

As you know from our previous communication, IFALPA has been informed by ALPA Canada that the Air Canada (AC) pilots have been in protracted negotiations with Air Canada management for over a year and they believe that they may be in a legal strike or lockout position as early as Wednesday 18 September 2024.

The possibility of a strike or lockout is becoming much more of a reality at this point as the Air Canada pilots have officially opened their Strike Centre today where they will manage and coordinate the strike or lockout. Air Canada has advised that they will begin the orderly shutdown of the airline over the coming days if an agreement is not reached with the pilots.

The Air Canada pilots would also like to communicate their profound thanks and appreciation for the numerous letters of support they have received from around the world.

On behalf of the Air Canada pilots, ALPA Canada requests the Mutual assistance outlined below, as per the IFALPA Industrial Manual, starting on Wednesday 18 September at 0001 LT until further notice.  We ask that all MAs pay special assistance to Para. 2.4.5 below to provide any assistance that is required for any pilots that find themselves stranded away from base.

  • Ban on Wet leasing (Para. 2.4.1)
  • Freeze in Capacity (Para. 2.4.2.2)
  • Assistance to Pilots Stranded Away from their Home Base (Para. 2.4.5)

ALPA Canada further requests that any requests for further information to be sent to the attention of First Officer Charlene Hudy, ACA MEC Chair, [email protected] and cc [email protected]

ALPA Canada will keep IFALPA and its Member Associations informed of any further developments.
