Dead Tired European Action Day

Africa and Middle East
Africa & Middle East

The Africa and Middle East (or AFI-MID) region of IFALPA stretches from the Mediterranean rim in the north to the Cape of Good Hope in the south and from the FIRs of the eastern South Atlantic in the west to the shores of the Persian Gulf in the east. The region is hugely diverse in the nature of the industry with parts of the region benefitting from the latest in aircraft and ground infrastructure while at the other end of the scale the picture is very different.

There is no doubt that the sub Saharan Africa faces air safety challenges that are not found anywhere else on the planet. The Officers and Pilot Volunteers of IFALPA are central in the work to change that reputation by working with the regulators and airspace users to make real improvements in the safety level of the region.

That said, there have been some notable successes in recent times. When the introduction of Reduced Vertical Separation Minima (RVSM) was proposed The Federation played a central role in ensuring that the development and implementation of the procedure was as safe as possible. As always IFALPA Pilot Volunteers remain at the forefront of the continuing work across the region to ensure that the air safety improvement stays at the top of the agenda.
