Dead Tired European Action Day

We have only recently developed guidance and procedures for the operations of New Large Aircraft (NLAs) such as the A-380 and 747-8 into the existing airports structure.  We will continue to work with ICAO and States to ensure that the implementation of increasing numbers of these large aircraft proceeds as seamlessly as possible.

We are also heavily involved with a number of runway safety initiatives around the world, with the FAA, Flight Safety Organization, and Eurocontrol to develop new procedures and design standards for airports that will decrease the likelihood of runway incursions and the severity of runway excursions.  This work is on-going and likely to be a hot topic for a number of years yet.

As well, as part of this runway safety effort, we are working with the manufacturers of several runway safety systems, such as EMAS, RWSL and FAROS (Final Approach Runway Occupancy Signal) systems to ensure that procedures and pilot actions are appropriate.

As can be seen, quite a few of our efforts involve crossover to other committee areas of expertise, such as Aircraft Design and Operations, Air Traffic Services, Human Performance, and a few others.  We continue to work in cooperation with these other IFALPA committees as well as liaise with industry and government bodies to ensure that these new systems adequately protect our members as they work around the world.  We hope that you enjoy our web-page and can make use of the links provided here-in to advance your awareness of some of the situations we are working on that may affect your members at work.
